Shakir Stewart, executive VP at Def Jam records committed suicide on Nov.1st in New York, according to sources. No other details in have yet to be released.

Stewart succeeded Jay-Z at Def Jam back in June 2008. He assumed overall responsibility for the day to day activities of the Def Jam label, including the acquisition and development of new talent, overseeing producers and guiding the creative vision and brand recognition of the legendary label.

Since September 2006, Stewart has served as Senior Vice President, A&R, Def Jam Recordings. That followed two years as Vice President, A&R, Def Jam Recordings, where his new artist signings included hip-hop stars Young Jeezy and Rick Ross. He came to the company from Hitco Publishing, where he was Senior Vice President & General Manager since 1999, and signed Beyonce to the firm. During that same period, he served as an A&R consultant to LaFace Records and (from 2000 to 2004) Arista Records, where he signed R&B sensation Ciara. Stewart was graduated from Morehouse College in 1996, with the Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing.

ok, this just doesn't sound right...this brotha seemed to have alot going for him.....it saddens me to think what a person could possibly be going through enough to make him/her take their own life....God rest his soul!....

I just want to send my condolences to all his family and friends. My heart goes out to you all. It saddens me as well to see a young brotha take his life for something that wasn't important. I make that comment because there is nothing that serious to take your life. Your life is too valuable. But I can say that it's wonderful that he was a successful black man that left an unforgettable mark of excellence
